knitted dishcloths

here are my knitted dishcloths, the first ones i've ever made. just a simple knit stitch throughout, but with a nice hand and (even better) handmade. sweet.

dishcloths

i've been knitting dishcloths. so far, i've made two of them, one out of natural (non-bleached) cotton and one out of a blue-green cotton yarn that i hand-dyed. i'm a slow knitter but the situation has reached a critical state in the kitchen: only one dishcloth has (nearly) no holes in it. the other dishcloths are more hole than dishcloth and washing dishes, wiping counters and tidying up with them is a frustrating affair. the knitting has proven to be very meditative and as i'm only doing a knit stitch i find i can also watch a bit of original Star Trek as streamed via Netflix. score.

yarn for the baby blanket

here's what i'm using for weft on my niece's baby blanket; 4/4 cotton

busy, busy, busy

been quite an adventure here at the weavery lately...had a new washer/dryer stacked unit installed and a new water heater, all in the same day in the very small bathroom. afterwards, floors needed cleaning and the closet needed putting back together along with a small mountain of laundry (been without a washer since two days before christmas). glad that's done!

now, onto weaving a baby blanket for my new niece. it'll be made out of 8/2 cotton, natural colored, for the warp and 8/4 and 4/4 cotton for the weft, light green/light blue/natural colors. yes, i said niece, not nephew! might throw some purple in there, too, just see how it goes. the finished blanket will be 36" x 36" so it will be done on the new big loom. the warp calculations declare i need 916 warp ends, each 5 yards long. oh my.

happenings at the weavery

Advent/Christmas was a busy time for me. i wove pastor r an Advent stole but unfortunately have no good pictures of it except for the one already posted. i also wove my family scarves out of some undyed natural-colored singles wool (the yarn was wrapped in a thin nylon thread) which turned out thick and soft. those were very welcomed among them since they visited during the christmas snow/blizzard and drove home (!) the same day. my neighbor also got a scarf. so now, my next projects are: weaving a baby blanket for my niece due to be born in february and weaving a full-sized coverlet, both on the new big floor loom. however, my "helpers" seem to have turned into "basket cases."
